Entrance ugliness – no boring screens here!

The entrance is seen as the welcome mat to your home, more than ever consideration is given to the design of our front doors. Entrance doors that have glass to bring in extra light to brighten the home’s entry area, are an essential ingredient to good modern design.

In our great climate, nothing is better than opening the front door to let the sunshine and fresh breeze fill the home. So do you opt for screen or no screen.

It’s such a shame when a beautiful statement of a front door is covered with a ugly screen door, removing its beauty. I have a personal dislike for those doors that make our entrances look more like a jail – making for an unwelcoming sight.

So, now I have raised the question, what options do you have for a screen door for your entrance, or verandah – let us consider the opportunities:

1. Security added Opt for more than just a standard screen door. Go all the way with the best security screen available, the Crimsafe Ultimate door, provides you with the opportunity for it all – great looks, breeze and security.

2. Add colour Match the colour of your entrance door to your new security or screen door.

Paint the door the same colour as the trim on the screen door frame, so it all ties in together. Get the screen or security door powdercoated to match your door or windows in your home – carry on with the colour theme.

3. Add a little something Want to stand out from the crowd, but without the cost of an Artisan hand crafted piece – then look no further than the range of colonial and heritage type screen doors – just add fly mesh or Crimsafe security mesh.

4. Remember – make it fun The door is the entrance to your home. Go on, add a touch of whimsy and personality, the screen door doesn’t have to be all squares and rectangles. There are a range of pre-cast patterns, one is sure to take your fancy. Or maybe a woodworker or iron monger could make something to add for you.

5. Make it a personal statement For those wanting that something extra – you can get a door made to your exact needs. So let our imagination run wild and create something truly beautiful to reflect the welcome you want to show-off your home. Artisans can be drawn from a variety of fields to create your door, from timber joinery companies through to iron mongers – the choice is yours.

6. Double it

Make it a double. Remember, screen doors can be double doors too, even if they are part of the external verandah. Whether placed on the verandah or on the house wall, a double screen door will certainly keep the interior light, bright, fresh and bug free.

Don’t worry, even if your doors open externally to your home, the screens can be fitted internally – so you get the benefits of breeze, light, security and of course keep the bugs out.

7. Pivot is not an issue Often people opt for large timber pivot doors, often considered hard to screen – but not so. Whilst it will no longer be a double action door, it can easily be converted to accommodate a fly or security screen door – even powder coating the aluminium to the same colour as your timber door.

8. Match it Make sure the structure (stiles and rails) of the new screen door line up with those in the main door. A perfect option if you have an aluminium and glass entry door, when accompanied with the Crimsafe Ultimate screen door with its 100mm wide framing. This can still be achieved with a timber door – just decide what the look is you want to create.

9. Slide away It doesn’t always need to be a hinged security door or screen door. Actually, there could be a number of situations when you’ll want that screen door to slide to the side, particularly if on a verandah.

This type of installation can easily be completed using an overhead track system, for either an aluminium or timber screen door.

10. Retract it Let it retract. Maybe not so much a door in the conventional sense, these screen panels retract either up or across into a structure, that is powdercoated the same finish as the frame, the tracks are incorporated neatly.

Whilst not a security screen in anyway, they do act as a great flyscreen door, letting the breeze flow, light in and bugs out.

Guess what you can even motorise many of these retractable screen options, perfect for the verandah or servery window.
