We all love choice -we want to clearly stamp our own identity on our home.
Whilst most people opt for a traditional hinged entrance door, some of us are looking for something a little different. You can create that perfect grand entrance and make a statement – with something different.
Let’s first look at the fundamental differences between the two – hinged vs pivot.
Hinged doors
Are held up by hinges on the side of the door frame, usually 2 or 3. Whilst usual in a home setting to have a closer attached to your door it is very possible to install a surface mounted closer to ensure that self-closing function is activated when required.
A traditional hinged door really cannot be any wider than 1100, without the risk of strain on the hardware and malfunctioning.
Pivot doors
So what is the hype about a pivot door all about – well it is all about scale. A pivot door allows for incredible wide doors to greet your guests. So how big can you go – how is 3metres tall and 1.5m wide – easy!!
Despite the scale and heaviness of these types of doors – the weight does not interfere with their functionality. A pivot door is held up from below on a central hinge or pivot box in the floor.
Imagine the reaction of your friends as they are greet with this massive door – the scale of this size of door draw will draw the eye on, resulting in less visual obstruction through minimising the amount of frame and ensuring bigger expanses of glass.
Many of us will recognise a pivot door from our shopping expeditions – these types of doors are often used in retail environments – check out the pivot box in the floor of our job at Robina Fashion precinct on the Gold Coast.
Pivot door benefits
Whilst most entrance or entry doors are traditionally timber doors.
Our commercial pivot entrance units operate with a large scale commercial self-return closing mechanism, specifically designed for the very intended purpose and weight of this type of door. Just like our frameless door installation at the Gold Coast Turf Club – extension this is the quality of the hardware you get on our pivot doors – design and built to last.
You dream it – We Make It at Central Glass and Aluminium, so dream away and let your imagination run wild – combinations of aluminium and timber are not uncommon – whatever your unique entrance statement is – a pivot door can be the key.
