What is glazing?
Glazing refers to the actual activity of the qualified glazier replacing the panel of damaged glass
ORthe installation of the new panel or it can ever to that actual panels of glass themselves that make up a part of a wall.
Can scratches be cleaned from glass?
Not only can scratches but also water stains can often be removed or polished out with products like cerium oxide, or water stain remover (available in our store). The severity of the staining and scratches determines the success of the process. If in doubt consult a professional.
Can all glass be cut?
Only glass in the following formats can be cut:
Annealed glass – also referred to as float glass or ordinary glass.Laminated glass – laminated glass is made of two independent panels of glass that are sandwiched and fused together under heat with a central inter layer called PVB (polyvinyl butylenes film). The PVB acts like a bonding agent and once heated firmly holds the two panes of glass together.
What other glass types are there?
Tempered glass is reheated to strengthened it just past the melting point and the suddenly cooling it. Some of the terms used to describe tempered glass products are monolithic, heat strengthened or toughened etc. These products ones super heated and cooled can. It longer be cut. When they break they shatter in to tiny square pieces.
What is a U value?
A u value is part of the assessment process to determine how energy efficient glass is. The u value is the actual measurement of the loss of heat or gain or heat in the air temperature between the inside and the outside of your home. Note the lower the U value number is the better the insulating performance.
What is a SHGC value?
SHGC stands for solar heat gain co-efficient. The SHGC measures how well the glass in the window or door blocks the heat from the sun. The SHGC is shown as a number, the lower the number the lower the less solar heat transmitted by it and the greater it’s shading capacity.
What is a bevel?
A sloping edge on a glass panel, most commonly used for mirrors. The bevel is measured in the width or depth of the bevel ie 20mm deep. A bevel is not to be confused with a polished edge, which is a process to polish the cut edge of the glass to make it space for use on table tops etc. This term is often represented as FPAE (flat polished all edges)
What is a IGU or double glazed unit?
IGU or I treated glazing unit consists of two or more panes of glass separated by an air space and as pacer. The spacer contains a drying agent, when the IGU is manufactured it is filled with argon glass. These IGU units are super efficient from a thermal and also a noise performance basis.
What is Low E all about?
The terms relates to the ability of a material to emit or discharge radiant energy. often when it comes to glass a low e coating is added thus improving its efficiency – when a low e coating is added it works like adding another panel of glass.
