After 40 years in the business, we know a thing or two about security screens. When you’re looking for the right security screen for your house, here’s what you should think about…
1. The stronger the better
If you’re looking to keep out more than flies and mosquitos, you’ve got to have something strong. Anything your pet can scratch a hole in isn’t going to stop a burglar’s knife.
We recommend Crimsafe and this is the biggest reason why.
2. Touch it
Any reputable screen manufacturer will have had their doors tested. Their is an Australian standard. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t see what you’re buying first. Touch it. Push it. Make sure you feel comfortable with it. Ask questions. Look online for reviews.
If you see a working model, check that the mesh is screwed into the frame, not held in place by cheap plastic locks that can be kicked in easily.
3. If safety matters, use a professional
The toughest security screen in the world is useless if it’s not properly installed. Professional installers know how to maximise the security of the screen in the way they install it. Don’t spend money on getting the best screen then make it ineffective by installing it badly.
4. Ask about the warranty
Quality manufacturers stand behind their products. Why wouldn’t they? Crimsafe, for instance, offers a 15 year warranty on their Ultimate products. Make sure you’re buying from someone who backs themselves. If they don’t think their screen won’t fail, you shouldn’t either.
